    Information Literacy | Anne-Marie Tarter, Librarian at Ripon Grammar School

    Location: Dixon's City Academy, Bradford

    Course Outline: This course aims to introduce the basic concepts of Information Literacy, suggest ideas for working with teachers to implement IL across the curriculum, provide practical experience in planning a project and creating online support materials and to raise awareness of Web 2.0 tools that can be used in IL projects.

    Trainer: Anne-Marie has worked as the school librarian at Ripon Grammar School for the last fifteen years. Information Literacy has always been a key interest of hers and she has slowly built up a programme of skills development, delivered through curricular subjects. She has delivered training on information literacy and librarian-teacher partnerships to various groups of librarians and teachers. She has served as the secretary of SLG for the past five years and served on the working party for the CILIP Guidelines for Secondary School Libraries.

    Outline of the Day
    • 9.30 am: Arrive, coffee
    • 10.00 am: An introduction to Information Literacy
    • 11.15 am: Coffee
    • 11.30 am: A chance to look at examples and resources with time for questions and comments
    • 12.45 pm: Lunch
    • 1.30 pm: A brief look at Web 2.0 and how you can use it in projects
    • 2.00 pm: How to plan a project
    • 2.30 pm: Practical planning and idea sharing (with refreshments!)
    • 3.15 pm: Finish

    Web 2.0 - Just Do It! But How? | Marianne Bradnock, Head of Information Services at Dulwich College

    Location: National Science Learning Centre, York

    Course Outline: Web 2.0 tools are developing at such a rate it is difficult to keep up. We're constantly being told to "Just do it". This event is for those of you who reply, "But how?" The course will cover what is meant by Web 2.0 and give us ideas on how we can use it to develop our libraries. The day will be very hands on, with plenty of time to explore some Web 2.0 tools for yourself in a supportive environment.

    Trainer: Marianne Bradnock is experienced in many aspects of ICT and Web 2.0, having delivered training in this area, as well as writing the invaluable SLA guideline Blogs and Bytes: ICT and the Secondary School Library. Marianne is the Head of Information Services at Dulwich College and an active member of CILIP and the SLA.

    • 11.30 am: Practical session, including wikis, blogs, RSS feeds, social networking/chat sites, photo and video sharing sites, custom search engines

    •  1.30 pm: Practical session: A chance to create your own personal homepage incorporating Web 2.0 tools
    •  2.30 pm: Coffee
    •  2.45 pm: Where do we go from here? What's new?
    •  3.30 pm: Finish
